Hello Dear Reader,
I welcome you to my first blog post in my new series ‘Positivism Rediscovered’. This piece is about how a small effort can make your day and brighten your mood.
If you have ever had coffee, which I would like to assume that you have, I am sure you are familiar with the experience. The rich aroma of coffee, brought to your nostrils with the steaming vapors of the milk; its comfy brown tone which feels welcome and homely; the delightful feel on your taste buds as the coffee makes its way down your throat, spreading warmth as it passes. And if on a hot day you take it chilled, the soft cool it releases which in an instant lightens your mood and helps you loosen.
It is a delight through and through, whether served hot or cold. It comes in many forms like cappuccino, espresso, mocha, etc., just to stimulate your favorite sense of taste in the way that suits you best. I used to be a coffee lover myself, which is what made me do what I am about to share with you.
At our canteen, what passes for a coffee is one sachet of coffee powder along with hot milk. It tastes just fine, but I prefer to take the milk directly, so I never draw my share of the sachets. But yesterday, my classmate requested me to take my sachet and give it to him, so that he could take it back with him and drink it at his leisure. I did so and all was well.
Today morning, while I was queuing up for the milk, I drew my sachet and later on, went to my friend’s room, woke him up and gave it to him. The small act of bringing coffee to a friend the first thing made my day. I felt good because I brought smile on a fellow’s face, and it was well worth it.
It made me realize that it is the small acts that you carry out for others out of selflessness that make you appreciate how you can bring a change to the world, how you can make it just a little better place to live. Sure, there are a lot many stresses, tensions and sorrows out there. But an act of goodness can help you to put that aside for an instant, and let you take note of the blessings that you have been given — by God and by nature.
So that was how a bit of coffee powder reminded me the importance of the little moment of privacy that everyone should get to enjoy with their favorite beverage, and also the sweetness of life that is friendship, and I am thankful to the lil’ sachet. With that, I’m signing off, and wishing you a wonderful date with your cuppa;)
Cheers!
